What does Homework look like in Science Tech?
Each week students are responsible for completing a science packet with a "Big Idea" that carries through several weeks, and participating in weekly vocab lessons with a quiz on Friday. Students will also complete an end of unit review quiz for both vocab and science when we come to the end of a unit.
In addition, we use an online system for math called "3D-Gamelab" which provides lessons online- students may spend time at home getting caught up, as this style of learning is self paced. Typically, students have 2 class sessions for a "Quest" before it should be completed at home.
How does multi-age work in Science Tech?
One of the benefits of our program is the multi-age component. This is a two-year program and it allows the 5th grade students the leadership opportunities to be mentors and teach 4th graders. Students learn from each other and take an active role in their learning.
As part of the two-year program, we rotate each year between the 4th and 5th grade curriculum for Science, Social Studies, Reading and Writing. Students are still graded on their grade level expectations, and Math is separated by grade levels. 5th graders also participate in all school wide 5th grade activities such as 5th grade Camp, our "Market Day", and Promotion.
What is the application process for Science Tech?
In order to apply for the Lottery, parents will have to attend and sign in at one of the three Informational nights hosted at each program. Parents can pick up applications at that time, and must submit them by the deadline. Parents are then invited to come watch the lottery at the District Office, and the first 25 students are selected, with additional students being placed on a wait list.
